In this episode, we speak with Dr. Jennifer Jurado, the Chief Resilience Officer for Broward County, and Dr. Colin Polsky, a Professor and Director of the Center for Environmental Studies at Florida Atlantic University. Jennifer and Colin are two of the leading experts in South Florida on sea level rise. We discuss the existential threat that sea level rise poses on South Florida and what is going on and what needs to be done better to not only survive, but to thrive in the future.

In this episode, we speak with Tara Tolford Research Associate & Pedestrian & Bicycle Outreach Coordinator from the University of New Orleans and co-author of the chapter on New Orleans in Adaptation Urbanism. Tara has worked in New Orleans for over the last 10 years to help institutionalize bicycle and pedestrian counting and safety programming. In the course of this work, she has helped to create partnerships with multiple levels of government and advocates from multiple sectors including active transportation, transit, public health, and the resilience sectors. While there’s still a long way to go particularly in terms of equity and safety, the New Orleans story provides some lessons for communities working to advance their resilient transportation active systems.

In this episode we speak with Angela van der Kloof Strategic Advisor with Mobycon, an active transport consulting company based in Netherlands. Angela consults with communities all over the world to help create safer systems for active transport. One of the things that really stands out about Dutch cities is the number of kids and older folks moving around the city on bikes. There’s a sense of freedom that seems to open the city to safe movement by everyone. In this episode we talk with Angela about how Dutch cities created this safe cycling system and the lessons that other cities can take from this experience.

In this series, Dr. Billy Fields from Texas State University and Dr. John Renne from Florida Atlantic University discuss how city transport systems can be changed to help us meet climate goals and at the same time help to create more livable, green cities.
