In this episode, we speak with Tara Tolford Research Associate & Pedestrian & Bicycle Outreach Coordinator from the University of New Orleans and co-author of the chapter on New Orleans in Adaptation Urbanism. Tara has worked in New Orleans for over the last 10 years to help institutionalize bicycle and pedestrian counting and safety programming. In the course of this work, she has helped to create partnerships with multiple levels of government and advocates from multiple sectors including active transportation, transit, public health, and the resilience sectors. While there’s still a long way to go particularly in terms of equity and safety, the New Orleans story provides some lessons for communities working to advance their resilient transportation active systems.
